Chapter 14: Night Intruders
A little while after closing up shop, Sketch and Jamal were walking from the factory headed toward their homes.
"So how did they do?" asked Sketch.
"Exceptionally well," Jamal said. "They learned the abilities much faster than you did!"
"Whoa, really? Man, they must have quite a talent being able to comprehend how to do all that so quickly."
"It just seems strange to me," said Jamal. "By the way, did you ever get those jetpacks assembled?"
"Better than that," said Sketch. "I built a robot assembly line that put together several jetpacks!"
"In only fifteen minutes?!" Jamal said with disbelief. "How?"
"Ever hear of 'lightning-fast' reflexes? I studied a few books last night on engineering and decided to put both my newfound knowledge and my lightning abilities to good use!"
"Amazing!" said Jamal. "You are quite capable yourself!"
"Yeah." Sketch sighed. "But I am so glad to be going home. Finally, a chance to get away from those two crazy girls!"
Jamal laughed. "Yes, they certainly put you on the spot, huh?"
Sketch rubbed his head. "I am never gonna get involved with love if I have to go through all that. It's the bachelor's life for me!"
"Well, I suppose you'd better lie down to rest tonight," said Jamal. "Take a break."
"Oh, don't worry! I will!" Sketch placed his hand on his hip. "Man, these aching pains just aren't gonna go away!"
"They squeezed you a little too hard?" Jamal said with a smile.
"Don't remind me." Sketch finally arrived at his house. "Well, I'm going to bed. You take care of yourself, okay?"
"Okay," said Jamal.
As Jamal went to his own home across the street, Sketch immediately entered the house, went to his room, got into pajamas, and got into bed. Holding his plush dragon, he turned off the light and fell asleep. He let out a pleasant sigh as he began to rest.
Suddenly he heard a slight noise.
"Hmm?"
He opened one eye and looked around. Nothing.
He shrugged and went back to sleep.
He started to hear other noises, softer and in a slow rhythm.
"What?"
Sketch was growing nervous. He sat up in his bed to listen closer.
There was only silence.
"I really need to relax," he said to himself. "I'm hearing things!"
As he fell back to sleep, he heard the noises again, only quicker and slightly louder.
"I know I heard something!"
He got out of bed and looked outside of his room.
There was nothing in sight.
Sketch was trembling. "Man, this is so creepy." He got into bed, holding his plush dragon closer to his heart and forcing his eyes shut. He waited for any other noises.
Nothing.
"Maybe something fell down the stairs," he said to himself. He took a deep breath and fell asleep.
Suddenly he heard the door creaking slowly. He jumped out of bed once again.
"Wha? What's going on?! Who's out there?"
He looked outside and still saw nothing.
"Man, I need to get some rest." He closed the door. "This is way too much."
He got into bed and fell asleep. He became so tired that it looked impossible to wake him.
The next morning came. Sketch yawned and began to wake.
"Man, what a night…"
He opened his eyes to find Donna and Iris standing in his room.
"AAAAAAAAHHH!"
"Good morning, sunshine!" they said together.
Sketch blushed. "What are you doing in my house?" he shouted.
"We figured you might've been lonely, so we decided to pay a visit last night!"
Sketch was shocked. "You WHAT?!"
Iris nodded. "Sure! Y'know, you're very cute when you're asleep!"
Donna nodded. "He's cute when he's awake, too!"
Sketch was furious. "GET OUT OF MY HOUSE! OUT! OUT! OUT!!!"
He grabbed Donna and Iris by the necks, brought them to the front door, and kicked them out.
"DON'T YOU EVER DO THAT AGAIN OR I'M GONNA CALL THE COPS!"
Donna and Iris, shocked and frightened, quickly ran for their homes.
Sketch was rubbing his forehead. "I can't believe those two! What brings a person to break into someone's house just to watch them sleep? I'm gonna have to figure out what to do about this little situation…"
With that, he closed his door and went on with his morning.
