Chapter 21: Kazano and the Myth Sword
As they entered the open platform of the shrine, Jamal neared Kazano.
"So, Jamal," Kazano began, "what did you see in these three?"
"Sketch Tucker shows much energy and a creative mind," said Jamal. "He is also very loyal and dependable."
"And the two girls?"
Sketch grinned. "He just added them for comic relief."
The girls were insulted. "Hey!"
Jamal smiled. "I chose them for their strength and bravery. They seem to like taking risks."
"That will help," Kazano said.
Sketch scratched his head and looked at Kazano in wonder. "Wow...it's just hard to believe that I'm actually talking to a Legend of such high esteem!"
"You flatter me once again," said Kazano.
"I hear you are very strong! But why do you need us to help defeat that fellow Russell Skidriff? Who is he anyway?"
Kazano went into the dome and brought out a slate and pens. He quickly scribbled a picture on the slate; despite the haste, he created a lifelike picture of a Ko Tengu. It looked like a lion in appearance, and it held a scythe in its hand.
"This is Russell Skidriff. He is a Ko Tengu of great evil. I have confronted many evil Tengus through my life, but never have I encountered a Tengu with a power so strong. He wishes for the Earth to be destroyed, for he does not like the people that live in the world."
"That's an odd excuse," said Donna.
"That is what he says, however," said Kazano. "Every day he grows stronger, and I fear if nothing is done soon, he will grow too powerful to be controlled."
"But why do you need us?" asked Sketch. "You are a powerful Karasu Tengu!"
"Just because one is a Karasu Tengu doesn't mean that he or she is strong. While Karasu Tengus have an overall control of natural forces, a Ko Tengu have singular natural force that they control. With only that singular natural force to control, a Ko Tengu can use it better than a Karasu Tengu could when using the same power."
Sketch scratched his chin. "So you're saying that if I were to fight you and we both used electric attacks, I'd have the stronger lightning?"
"Correct."
"Whoa."
"Russell Skidriff is a Ko Tengu whose powers are evil. His evil is greater than any normal being's, and the powers behind his evil are deadly. It is hard to fight evil power alone, so I needed to find people to help defeat him in order to prevent the threat of Utopia's destruction."
"That sounds tough," said Donna, "considering we just turned into Ko Tengus a week and a half ago!"
"Sir," Sketch began to ask, "Madam Tenko mentioned something about a Myth Sword that you guard. What exactly is the Myth Sword? And why is it so important?"
Kazano held out his giant sword for the others to examine.
"This," said Kazano, "is the legendary Myth sword. Many centuries ago this sword was welded using a mystical crystal and the powers of every Legend in existence. This sword is capable of giving the bearer a powerful armor that enhances their powers and abilities."
"Whoa!" Iris said in surprise. "Let me see it!"
"I don't think you will be able to hold it," said Kazano.
Iris placed her hands and her hips. "Why not? I'm strong!"
Kazano sighed. "Don't say I didn't warn you." He placed the sword on the ground and stepped away. Iris approached the sword and reached for the helm. Suddenly the sword glowed and zapped Iris with a blue electric shock. Surprised and in pain, Iris jumped away.
"What kind of a dirty trick is this?" said Iris in anger.
"The sword can only be held by powerful Legends," said Kazano. "You are not a strong Legend, so you are unable to hold the sword."
Sketch neared the sword cautiously. He slowly reached for the helm and began to place his hand around it. The sword did not react, but Sketch was unable to lift it because of its great weight. "Geez!" Sketch grunted. "You just gotta be strong to lift this thing!"
Kazano looked in amazement at Sketch's struggling as he continued to try to lift the Myth Sword. "Tucker, I wish to get the sword back."
Sketch looked at Kazano and let go of the sword, panting after struggling to lift the sword. Kazano reached for the sword and grabbed its helm.
"You are not strong either, Sketch," Kazano said. "Which reminds me...you will all need to get ready to train."
"Just one more question," said Sketch. "Does Russell Skidriff know about the sword?"
"That is a good question," said Kazano. "I am uncertain if he knows, but I suggest not mentioning the sword to him, or it will be guaranteed that he will know. If he gets the sword, he will surely be unstoppable!"
"Yes, sir," said the others.
Kazano nodded. "Now get dressed into your training uniforms. You will find them inside of the main shrine room." He pointed to the dome. "And please respect each other's privacy."
Sketch looked at the girls. "Yes, please do."
Donna and Iris smiled at Sketch mischievously.
"Get moving!" said Kazano impatiently. "Training begins in five minutes! GO!"
The four trainees headed toward the dome quickly so that they wouldn't get in trouble. Meanwhile, Kazano looked at Sketch in wonder and uncertainty.
The sword shocks those who cannot hold the sword because of their unworthiness. But Tucker did not get shocked when he grabbed the helm. The sword has considered Sketch to be a powerful Legend! But he is only a weak Ko Tengu! What exactly is he?
